Robot Frida: The HosmartAI Project, Dr. Izidor Mlakar and Team

The HosmartAI project is part of the Horizon 2020 initiative, focusing on the intelligent development of hospitals based on artificial intelligence. Project partners are co-developing an open integration framework with the necessary tools for incorporating digital technologies (Artificial Intelligence) into healthcare systems.

The University of Maribor is participating in the project with an exceptionally multidisciplinary team comprising experts from FERI (Laboratory for Digital Signal Processing, Laboratory for Cognitive Systems in Mechatronics) and the Department of Psychology at the Faculty of Arts. The UM team, in close collaboration with the University Clinical Center Maribor, is developing and validating the integration of social robots into patient care during hospitalization as part of a pilot project.

For this purpose, the robot unit has been enhanced with proprietary speech technologies (synthesis – TTS PLATOS, recognizer – ASR SPREAD), natural behavior synthesis technologies (gestures, conversational agents), computer vision technologies (exercise recognition), autonomy technologies (SLAM), and technologies for interactive behavior planning and robot management.
