Slovenia's Success in the European Call for a High-Performance Supercomputer with an AI Factory
lovenia has been successful in a European call for proposals to acquire a high-performance supercomputer equipped with an artificial intelligence factory. The €150 million project received widespread praise and achieved the highest score among applicants. The European Union will contribute €67.5 million to the project, with the remaining funding coming from the Slovenian national budget.
The new supercomputer will upgrade the capabilities of the existing Vega supercomputer and serve as a key platform for advanced research and the development of solutions in fields such as artificial intelligence, big data analytics, biotechnology, and environmental science.
The project is part of a broader European Commission strategy to establish a network of AI factories across Europe to support innovation and development in this field. The Slovenian government expects the supercomputer to become operational in June 2026, positioning Slovenia among the most technologically advanced countries.
