PROF. DR. KRISTINA DJINOVIĆ-CARUGO, HEAD OF THE RESEARCH UNIT AT EMBL GRENOBLE, RECEIVED THE PRESIDENTIAL AWARD OF AMBASSADOR OF SCIENCE OF THE REPUBLIC OF SLOVENIA, October 2024
This award is given to scientists who have made a significant contribution to the visibility of Slovenian scientific achievements abroad. Prof. Djinović-Carugo is a renowned expert in the field of integrative structural biology, where her research focuses on the Z-disc in muscle cells, important for muscle contraction, and on understanding the molecular basis of muscle diseases such as cardiomyopathies. She started her career in Slovenia, obtaining her PhD at the University of Ljubljana, before working at renowned institutions in Italy, Austria, Germany and France. In 2022, she took over the management of EMBL Grenoble, where she continues her research and contributes to international scientific development. The award also highlights the importance of her Slovenian education in shaping her career and her connection to Slovenia, where she was offered initial opportunities for scientific work and growth.
