DR. MATJAŽ HUMAR AND DR. ANDRII TYKHONOV, RESEARCHERS AT THE JOŽEF STEFAN INSTITUTE (IJS), HAVE RECEIVED AN ERC CONSOLIDATOR GRANT FOR DEVELOPING RESEARCH CAREERS, December 2024
Dr Humar will work on SoftQuanta to explore quantum light sources based on soft and biological materials such as liquid crystals, with a vision to develop quantum LCD. The project has the potential to transform fields such as quantum sensing, communication and quantum computing.
Dr Tykhonov's PeVGALAXY project will for the first time accurately detect cosmic rays at energy levels previously inaccessible. These measurements will reveal the origins of the most powerful explosions in the Milky Way and help to understand dark matter, one of the key unsolved questions in modern science. Together, the two projects exceed €4 million in funding and reinforce Slovenia's reputation for cutting-edge research. This is the second ERC project for both researchers, confirming their outstanding scientific excellence
