Artificial Intelligence Act

The Council has approved groundbreaking legislation known as the Artificial Intelligence Act, which is the first of its kind in the world and follows a risk-based approach. It aims to promote the development and use of safe and trustworthy AI systems in the EU single market while ensuring the protection of EU citizens' fundamental rights. The legislation classifies AI systems according to their risk level, imposes strict requirements for high-risk systems, and prohibits certain practices, such as social scoring and cognitive manipulation. The new governance structure includes multiple enforcement bodies, and penalties for violations are also stipulated. The Act encourages innovation through regulatory sandboxes and requires transparency in the use of high-risk AI systems. The legislation will come into effect two years after its publication in the Official Journal of the EU. More information can be found at the link below.
