International Environmental Centre "Alpe Adria Green"
The International Environmental Centre Alpe Adria Green (AAG), which operates in the Alps-Adriatic region, is committed to sustainable development and environmental protection, often highlighting Slovenia as an example where sustainable energy should be prioritised over nuclear energy. The organisation has been actively involved in the debate on the future of Slovenian energy for many years and has been among the leading critics of the expansion of nuclear energy. In the context of the debate on whether Slovenia should rely more on nuclear energy in the future or move towards sustainable sources such as solar and wind, Alpe Adria Green highlights the dangers of nuclear power plants, including safety issues and nuclear waste management. In the past, they have opposed the construction of the second unit of the Krško nuclear power plant (NPP 2), arguing that a greater focus on renewable energy sources is needed to allow energy independence without the risks associated with nuclear technology. In August 2024, an article entitled "Slovenia, nuclear or sustainable?" was published in Nuclear Monitor 918 and translated on the ZEG portal, with the subtitle "Slovenia before the referendum on a new nuclear power plant". The very topical content of the article was also summarised by ZaEnSvet.
