The HosmartAI project is a Horizon H2020 initiative focusing on the smart development of hospitals based on artificial intelligence. Partners in the project are developing an open integration framework with tools necessary for integrating digital technologies (Artificial Intelligence) into the healthcare system. The University of Maribor participates with an exceptionally multidisciplinary team consisting of experts from FERI (Laboratory for Digital Signal Processing, Laboratory for Cognitive Systems in Mechatronics) and the Department of Psychology at the Faculty of Philosophy.

The University of Maribor team, in close collaboration with the University Medical Centre Maribor, is developing and validating, within the framework of a pilot project, the possibility of integrating social robots into patient care during hospitalization. For this purpose, we have enhanced the robotic unit with our own speech technologies (synthesis – TTS PLATOS, recognition – ASR SPREAD), technologies for synthesizing natural behavior (gestures, conversational agents), computer vision technologies (task recognition), autonomy technologies (SLAM), and technologies for interactive behavior planning and robot management.
