Portrait on the Fly (2015)
The project "Portrait on the Fly" is an interactive art installation created by Christa Sommerer and Laurent Mignonneau. In this piece, visitors encounter a large screen displaying a swarm of flies. When a visitor stands in front of the screen, the flies begin to follow their movements and gradually form the shape of the visitor’s face. This dynamic portrait constantly changes and adapts according to the movement of the person in front of the screen. The project combines elements of digital art, interactivity, and biological metaphor, encouraging reflection on the relationship between humans and the digital world, as well as questions of identity and perception.
Homo Insectus (2019 – 2020)
"Homo Insectus" is an interactive installation created by Christa Sommerer and Laurent Mignonneau. This installation presents a hybrid world where human figures and insects coexist within a virtual ecosystem. Visitors are presented with an interactive screen where their silhouettes become host environments for virtual insects. The movement and behavior of these insects change according to the movements of the people in front of the screen. This installation explores the interdependence and interaction between the human and animal worlds, while also highlighting questions about the impact of technology on our perception of the natural world.
Both works are typical examples of how Sommerer and Mignonneau blend art, science, and technology to create deeply engaging and thought-provoking interactive experiences. Their works often encourage visitors to reconsider their role in the evolving digital and biological environments.
