On June 7, 2024, the United Nations declared 2025 the International Year of Quantum Sciences and Technology. 2025 will mark 100 years since the development of quantum mechanics, which is key to progress in physics and technology. The focus of this year will be on increasing awareness of the importance of quantum sciences and their applications in everyday life. The goal is to expand knowledge about areas such as quantum computing, quantum communication and metrology, which promise major changes in various areas such as industry, health and security. Various events and activities will be held around the world to promote cooperation between researchers, industry and governments and contribute to the advancement of quantum technologies. There are already active research groups in this field in Slovenia, so 2025 will also be an opportunity for further development and connection with global innovations.
